I was sadly mistaken. It works fine with other types but doesn't fill the main role for which I wanted it. This functionality belongs in the externally accessible floppy bay, where it is more fumble proof and less likely to be dropped. It may be OK, for a laptop, which I am not much into. If you don't like the internal mounted unit, a thumb drive with a SD slot is probably preferred over this solution, even for a laptop, for the same reasons. The slots are recessed back into the housing and the cards are very difficult to remove. I thought of using a pair of pliers but did not want to ruin my card.
